Interface Food and Drink

Our congratulations go out to two highly innovative collaborations which have won Interface Food & Drink’s legacy competition, which will provide funding of £88,000 towards industry–academic projects. We thanks all those who entered the competition, the standard was very high and was a reflection of how food and drink companies recognise that innovation can have  a major impact on your business and also that world class expertise from the Scottish Universities is there for all to access.

Our winners were:

Davidson Brothers (Shotts) Limited and SAMS, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, they will analyse the use of seaweed in animal feeds as a sustainable and nutritional ingredient focussing on pre-treatment processes.

Angus Growers, East of Scotland Growers, Kettle Produce and three academic partners; Edinburgh Napier University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Strathclyde.  They will test the innovative application of pyrolysis in converting waste plastic to valuable by-products in the farming industry.

The deadline for applications to all Interface Food & Drink's funding has now passed.  With the imminent end of the Interface Food & Drink Project we have had to draw a line as to when we stop taking new applications.  Those applications which are successful will be free to start their projects in the coming months and we will have measures in place to monitor progress and process claims for the funding to be released eventhough we as a team will cease to exist after November 2016.

Food From Thought - Innovating in the Food & Drink Industry event at Murrayfield on the 28th January

Wow!  We've just managed to catch our breath after what we are being told was a successful event, with 15 speakers from both the academic and business world, 20 exhibitors and over 100 delegates.  There was a real buzz around the President's Suite and a lot of discussions about innovating in the Food &  Drink industry whilst fittingly being served great food on the day by the Murrayfield team, for the latest press release please click here
